response to podcast and brainstorming

The point in the “summer” Podcast is to tell us how other people live in other culture in lifestyles. Camping, it tells us from there side of the story why camping is fun. Why they like it so much. “Camping two days is like living two weeks in real life”. A kid even said camping is its on time zone.  But batman story is a profile by giving connotations. Of these scientific adventures that people have. “Two of these hazel blue eyes in my hand” say Daniel’s date that night. The story of the blind man, Daniel clicking his tong using echolocation to survive. The point is if you believe you can achieve. if you ask me you really hear way more from the interviewee than the interviewer. You hear things like Daniel mocking his own fame because people always asked him to ride his bike. Daniel never the less thought it was funny that people always wanted to see him ride it. For the podcast “summer” in the camp you herd kids singing and telling scary stories. Other than that they talked about regular life. The things that suck people in to these pod cast is that most people can relate to them so well. If you like camping a lot or you are a blind person. Maybe you are both and you can relate very good with the cast. The thing that sucks me in to the “summer” cast is that they have a brother hood. They eat together sleep together and just plain out live on the campsite as one. But Daniel has overcome many obstacles which sucks me in on that he has the will to be the best blind man ever.
I’m really lost in this assignment I don’t know what group or individual I would event decide to experiment on. Maybe I should do it over the culture of food and its worth in society. Maybe the importance of food types in life. But to do that I would have to interview the cafeteria people. During lunch time breakfast and dinner. Or should I interview another athlete. And how she or he came about where they are from and the challenges they overcame.  How would I get this on record? Should I check out a recording device?  Is the library a good source for people to interview and observe. Or should I interview and observe the teacher of the class and her achievements, struggles and challenge, that deal with her worth in society and valued as a teacher. If so what questions should I asked these people. How can I draw or bleed information out of them.  How would I show the best of ethnography.

  1. I found the things you said interesting and I can agree with what you thought the pod casts were about.

  2. Hi Jalin,
I'm glad you noticed the way the Summer Camp podcast connected to an idea of brotherhood, but I would encourage you to keep looking for those m"big ideas" in the model texts (the things we're using as examples for the assignment). Try to find the way they make points that go beyond the expected things like "trying hard."

In terms of your project, how can I help? Do you feel like you are a little clearer after class today? So if you're question is about worth, could you perhaps study another group of athletes--maybe ones whose support is less high profile than football. So, could you do an ethnography of the swim team, for example, to see how they understand worth of themselves. Or maybe a profile of a single other athlete. Or, perhaps you could go a completely different direction to see how say, someone who gains their identity from something like their school work--like a really good science student, for example--understands their sense of worth. Or you could look at a non student--maybe someone who doesn't have a "flashy job," like a fast food work or cleaning person--how do they understand their worth in the world? these are just a handful of ideas. See if this helps, and if you're still feeling stuck, e-mail me or talk to me after class and we can work together.
